Birthday plan for a better birthdayHow do you feel when you think of celebrating your birthday?

Do you feel excited or are you filled with dread?

When I think about my own birthday, I have to say – dread is the overriding feeling.  Many of my friends feel the same way.

Do You Make A Birthday Plan?

As a modern culture, getting older is something to be avoided instead of celebrated.  Whereas in times past, seniors were seen as wise-men and women, now they are seen as feeble and needy.

I often hear, things like:

“I don’t celebrate my birthday anymore.”

“It’s just another year.  I would rather not think about getting older.”

For me, birthdays have been some of my worst days ever but not because I dreaded getting older.

I, instead, had expectations that weren’t met.  Even as a 44 (about to turn 45) mature woman, I still carried the belief that people should be able to read my mind.

My family should know how I want to celebrate my day.

Colleagues should remember my birthday without my having to remind them.

Predictably, friends and family failed to read my mind and colleagues forgot about my birthday.  So I would feel unloved and depressed.  Not exactly the way you want to start off another year on this earth.birthday plan with trello

So this year I decided to approach my birthday the way I would approach an important client event – I would create a birthday plan.

I told my family exactly what I and DID NOT want.  Things like absolutely no signing of the “Happy Birthday” song.  I don’t know what it is about that song, but I really dislike it. LOL

I put more thought into this birthday than any other one.  It was the first time I sat down and envisioned what a perfect birthday would feel like.

How about you?  Have you ever sat down and planned your ideal birthday?  Have you put as much thought into you own birthday plan as you have for your children, spouse or parents?

I invite you to create a birthday plan right now too.  Even if your birthday is months away, create a quick little plan now.  When you birthday rolls around, you will already have a great starting point.

Ask yourself questions like:

  • What do I want to feel on my birthday?
  • What do I want to experience on my actual day?
  • Do I need gifts?  If so, what would make me feel special all year?
  • What would create a special memory for me that I can hold onto all year?

I created a free video course that walks you though this plan step by step.  It’s a fun little course that I know you will enjoy.  I have already had over 700 students enroll!

I use Trello in the course to create my plan but you can use any program or even a page in your paper planner.  The platform isn’t important but the method is.
