Do you suffer from migraines? When I get them they are persistent but thankfully on the milder side. For me they last about three days and feel like a vice is strapped around the front of my head.
I know for some of you, migraines are much more severe and affect your eyesight and require you to stay in bed for the duration of the migraine.
If you are like me and have a milder version of migraine headaches here is a reliever to try.
Try a light standing workout. I know this sounds counter-intuitive since your head is throbbing but it really does help. One day three of my migraine, I decided taking it easy wasn’t doing anything to improve my head so I did a light workout.
I kept the impact low to medium and didn’t get my heart rate up too high. Just enough to break a light sweat and get my body warmed up. The result – my migraine lifted after the first five minutes.
Opening your blood vessels by increasing your heart rate and taking in more oxygen released the pressure in my head and gave me some relief. I also drank plenty of water.
I worked out for about 25 minutes and then cooled down. During the cool down my headache came back slightly but by the time I hopped in a warm steamy shower it went away again.
Now, a few hours later my migraine is now just a mild headache and nothing like it was before.
So next time you want a little relief from a migraine, try a light workout instead of drugs. It’s a healthier solution all around.
I recommend one of Leslie Sansone’s walking workouts for this type of workout. Your hands stay below your heart for the most part, the impact is low and it is enough of a workout to get your heart rate elevated.
